Yes. If the recommended 6-8" distance won't work in your situation you may choose a location as far back as you need. However, you must account for the distance by using a longer stretch cord. For example: An 8ft cord is recommended in a pool larger than 14ft but you've chosen to install 4ft back from the water's edge. The install location will require a 12ft cord for correct placement of the swimmer in the swimming area.
